The Corner #9 Upstate NY -- per capita, the snowiest, rainiest, grayest area of the entire United States -- is where I was born, grew up and went to school. The effects to the psyche are as yet undocumented. However, I am hopefully confident that someday -- in the same breath as melatonin, red wine and Vitamin E -- those native to the area between Buffalo and Albany above the Catskills will show at least one positive genetic predisposition due to the harsh circumstance of the weather. Either that, or their full-blown tendency toward skin cancer will finally be exposed. I have become more fully aware, recently, of a virtual Diaspora of Central NYers, working along side of me in the Green Mountains. And they do all seem to have good tans....hmmm.... |
